About Shawn Lipinski

Shawn Lipinski is the lead genetic counselor at Virginia Cancer Specialists, where she has worked for 10 years. She is licensed, board-certified, and has practiced genetic counseling since 2004, following her graduate training at the Johns Hopkins University and the National Human Genome Research Institute.

Before joining Virginia Cancer Specialists, Shawn worked at the University of Virginia Health System as a genetic counselor and clinical lecturer in the Division of Medical Genetics. There, she provided genetic counseling for pediatric and adult patients across a wide range of indications, including cancer, cardiac, metabolic, developmental, and neurological conditions. She later served as the senior genetic counselor at O&O Alpan, where she specialized in lysosomal storage disorders and rare diseases.

Shawn has been actively involved in clinical research, education, and professional leadership. She is a member of the Executive Committee for the Genetics Program of US Oncology and has served as a board member of the Virginia Association of Genetic Counselors. She has presented at regional and national conferences and published multiple peer-reviewed articles. Additionally, she has also mentored numerous students and fellows in the field of genetic counseling.

In her spare time, Shawn enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters, coaching high school diving, and traveling.
