McCarthy graduated with high honors from Rutgers University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Materials Engineering. He then went on to earn his medical degree and complete an Internal Medicine residency at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. During his residency, Dr. McCarthy was honored with the Nilesh Tamakuwala, MD Memorial Award, a distinction presented to the individual who best demonstrated compassion in care and excellence in teaching.

Dr. Gandhi joins Virginia Cancer Specialists after serving as Chief Fellow in the Medical Oncology and Hematology Fellowship program at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. During his time at Northwestern, Dr. Gandhi actively participated in clinical research, with a focus in high risk lymphoma. He has presented at major national meetings, won the American Society of Hematology’s Abstract Achievement Award in 2013, and has several publications including a recent article in Blood on double hit lymphomas. Dr. Gandhi is currently an Associate Member of both the American Society of Hematology and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

Dr. Chong joins Virginia Cancer Specialists after serving as Chief Fellow in the Medical Oncology and Hematology Fellowship program at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. During his time there, Dr. Chong was also a Clinical Research Fellow at the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, where he participated in various studies, including several focused on prostate cancer. He has presented posters at national physician conferences and has authored several peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Chong is a member of both the American Society of Hematology and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

Dr. Sandeep Khandhar is board certified in cardiothoracic and general surgery. In 2019, he joined Virginia Cancer Specialists having over 20 years of clinical experience. He has a special interest in the management of Lung Cancer and employing minimally invasive surgical techniques.
