COVID-19 and Influenza Prevention Policy

Effective January 9, 2026, Virginia Cancer Specialists recommends the use of face masks for all staff, patients, and family members in all patient care areas.

 2026 Flu Season Recommendations

Based on new recommendations from the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), health care facilities are strongly encouraged to recommend the use of face masks. These recommendations are in response to an increase in influenza cases across the DMV area and rising hospital admissions locally.

Effective January 9, 2026, Virginia Cancer Specialists recommends the use of face masks for all staff, patients, and family members in all patient care areas.

Our goal at Virginia Cancer Specialists is to protect both our staff and our patients during this peak respiratory illness season.

How You Can Help Prevent the Spread of Flu and COVID-19

To help keep our patients and community safe, please follow these prevention steps:

  • Get Vaccinated
We strongly recommend an annual flu vaccination.
  • Practice Good Hygiene
Wash your hands often and cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing.
  • Stay Home if You Are Sick
    • To help protect our patients and staff, we ask that anyone experiencing fever, cough, shortness of breath, cold-like symptoms, difficulty breathing, or gastrointestinal symptoms (including diarrhea) contact our office before coming to your appointment.
    • Please do not come to the clinic if you are ill. You may return after at least 3 days, once you have been fever-free for 24 hours and your symptoms are improving.
    • Telemedicine visits may be available for certain appointments when appropriate.
  • When you return, please wear a face mask for 7 days.
  • Wear a Mask after Exposure
Wear a face mask for 5 days and monitor yourself for symptoms.
  • Keep a Clean and Safe Environment
  • Our offices are cleaned regularly, with attention to high-touch surfaces and proper ventilation.
  • For our patient’s protection, there is a limit one (1) visitor per patient if necessary. No visitors are allowed in the chemo infusion room.
  • Report Your Illness
If you are diagnosed with influenza, please follow treatment recommendations from your primary care provider.

Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe during flu season.
