A formulation for intravenous injection containing ibuprofen, a propionic acid derivative and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), with anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic activities. Upon intravenous injection, ibuprofen inhibits the activity of the enzymes cyclooxygenase I (COX-1) and II (COX-2), resulting in a decreased formation of precursors of prostaglandins and thromboxanes. Inhibition of COX-2 specifically blocks the conversion of arachidonic acid (AA) to prostaglandins, which mediate inflammation, fever and pain. Check for active clinical trials using this agent.
