Youssef M. Charara, PhD, DABR is Chief Medical Physicist and director of radiation services at Virginia Cancer Specialists. He earned his BS, MS, and PhD in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Tennessee and completed his Medical Physics Residency at Thompson Cancer Survival Center in Knoxville, Tennessee. Dr. Charara is board-certified in Therapeutic Medical Physics by the American Board of Radiology and is an active member of AAPM and ASTRO, where he serves on several committees focused on advancing radiopharmaceutical therapy and precision oncology.
With more than 20 years of experience in radiation oncology, Dr. Charara specializes in radiopharmaceutical therapy, theranostics, radiation safety, and advanced treatment technologies. He has been instrumental in developing one of the nation’s leading community-based radiopharmaceutical therapy programs, including the implementation of Xofigo®, Lutathera®, Pluvicto®, and multiple clinical trials.
In his spare time, Dr. Charara enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, traveling and coaching youth soccer.
