For patients facing cancer, access to advanced care close to home can make a powerful difference. In a recent video interview filmed at Reston Hospital, Dr. Christina Brzezniak and Dr. Mitul Gandhi discuss why community-based cancer care – including access to the latest therapies — is so important for patients and their families.
Dr. Brzezniak brings light to Reston Hospital’s commitment to expanding local oncology services, noting the importance of “increasing access to clinical trials and state-of-the-art medicine, including building our cellular therapy program here at Reston Hospital.” By offering advanced treatments locally, patients can receive leading-edge care without the burden of traveling far from their support systems.
Dr. Mitul Gandhi, a Medical Oncologist with Virginia Cancer Specialists, highlights a key milestone in that effort. “Over the past year, we have developed a partnership with Reston to treat our most complex blood cancers for patients using cellular therapy – otherwise known as T-cell immunotherapy, CAR T-cell therapy,” he explains. This collaboration allows patients with complex blood cancers to access highly specialized treatments right in their community.
Together, Dr. Brzezniak and Dr. Gandhi share how innovation, partnership, and a focus on local access are transforming cancer care in Northern Virginia.
