About Monica Thompson
Monica Thompson is a board-certified adult-gerontology nurse practitioner at Virginia Cancer Specialists, where she is part of the Supportive Cancer Care team. She works with adult and geriatric patients to manage symptoms, improve quality of life, and guide care planning throughout the cancer journey.
Monica brings over a decade of nursing experience and almost 5 years of advanced practice in supportive care. Her expertise includes comprehensive assessments, symptom management, and facilitating meaningful conversations around goals of care and advanced care planning. She collaborates closely with oncologists and interdisciplinary teams to ensure continuity and compassion in patient care.
Prior to joining Virginia Cancer Specialists, Monica served as a nurse practitioner with ProMedica and as an RN Case Manager with Capital Caring Health, where she provided palliative and hospice care and helped grow patient services through strong community partnerships. She is dedicated to helping patients and families navigate complex health challenges with empathy and clarity.
